Many people are no longer satisfied with yellow teeth no matter how
healthy they may be. More and more people are demanding whiter and
brighter teeth to avoid an ‘unhealthy’ appearance.
Over 85% of adults say that an unattractive smile makes someone less
appealing to the opposite sex, your Smile is unique and it tells the
world about you in so many ways. Your smile influences communication and
your social standing. Your smile is a sign of your vitality, state of
happiness and general well being.
Professional Teeth Whitening is an extremely versatile way of making
your natural teeth look brighter without causing them any harm. It can
be carried out in a number of ways depending on the nature and intensity
of discolouration. The 'active ingredient' in the gel is usually
hydrogen peroxide. As it is broken down, oxygen gets inside the enamel
of the teeth and dissolves the discoloured pigments, thereby, making the
teeth look overall lighter.
At Evolve Dentistry in Bristol we use 2 types of whitening, home and in-surgery power whitening.
Home Teeth Whitening in Bristol:
For home whitening we will provide you with the full kit of custom made whitening trays and whitening gels. You will need to wear the close fitting teeth whitening trays for a 3-4 hours each day or overnight, after having applied the gentle whitening gel to the inside of the tray.
This clear tray then holds the whitening gel against your teeth while the whitening agent in the gel works, it's magic!
You are in complete control and can decide how white you would like your teeth to be, simply stop whitening when you reach your desired shade. We recommend that you whiten for 2-3 weeks.
iPower tooth whitening in Bristol:
Evolve Dentistry uses iPower which is the very latest in tooth whitening systems.
iPower whitening costs £495 which includes home trays and top up gel.
It only whitens natural teeth, so fillings, crowns, and dentures will not change colour.
98% of the population will get whiter teeth, and it is not yet known why the remaining 2% do not whiten.
60% of people will get sensitivity which can range from mild to severe, it is only temporary and lasts between 1 -2 days.
Long term top up is needed to maintain the colour change, this is done with home trays. Everyone develops their own regime, but generally we recommend toping up 3 nights every 3 months. Trays are worn overnight as you should not eat, drink or talk very much whilst they are in.
Factors such as smoking, red wine, tea and coffee will influence how frequently top up is required.
If any cosmetic work is going to be considered, then whitening is done first to ensure that other dental work is colour matched to the whitened teeth.
Teeth Whitening damages teeth: NOT TRUE
It is not true that Teeth Whitening damages teeth. The bleaching agent is in contact with your teeth for only a short period of time, it is also carefully balanced in its chemical composition to ensure it is the perfect concerntration to ensure a natural and safe white smile.
Yellow Teeth are stronger than white teeth: NOT TRUE
It is not true that yellow teeth are stronger than whiter teeth. The shade of your tooth has no impact at all upon the health or strength of your teeth, the only connection is that as we get older our teeth get yellower. They also get weaker due to stress cracks caused by years of use. However the yellowing and strength issues are not related.
Teeth Whitening can be done by anyone (including hairdressers and nail salons): NOT TRUE
The procedure of teeth whitening means a person needs to put their hands in your mouth - this is then defined as 'dentistry'. The only person licensed to practice dentistry in the UK is a dentist, therefore ALL teeth whitening legally needs to be on prescription of a dentist and following a full assessment for dental health and suitability.
A hairdresser or nail technician, whilst suitably qualified to perform their own jobs, are not suitably qualified to assess your dental health prior to teeth whitening.
