Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is a skin rejuvenating solution that utilise the restorative and healing properties of you own blood platelets.
A PRP treatment involves carefully withdrawing a vial of 10 ml of blood, which is then processed in a centrifuge in order to separate and extract the platelets and plasma. The concentrated straw-coloured liquid is re-injected into the skin to revitalise its appearance.
To obtain the most effective results, we recommend that you undergo 3 separate treatments a month apart from each other. After this, treatment should be repeated once every 6 to 12 months, depending on any pre-existing skin condition.
PRP treatments typically last between 40 and 60 minutes, though this may vary from patient to patient and the extent of the area to be treated.
At Evolve Dentistry, we require that all patients attend a separate no-obligation consultation before their first treatment appointment. This will allow Carol to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for your facial aesthetic goals.
At your PRP treatment appointment, a small amount of blood will be withdrawn from the arm, typically no more than 10 ml. This vial is then placed in the centrifuge to separate the platelets from the red blood cells.
After the plasma has been isolated, it is reinjected into the skin at 1.5 mm depth using multiple tiny needles. It is also injected deeper into lower layers of the face to stimulate tissue rejuvenation.
PRP treatment involves mild discomfort during the procedure, but this typically reduces very quickly.
Yes – Carol will administer a numbing cream 30 to 40 minutes before your PRP treatment to minimise any discomfort.
Typically, results will be visible around 4 weeks post-procedure.
After 3 initial treatments carried out a month apart, the results of your PRP treatment will usually last between 6 and 12 months. We recommend that patients schedule their maintenance treatment at regular interval once or twice per year.
As PRP treatment involves the use of naturally occurring materials, allergic or adverse reactions to the treatment are rare.
However, patients may notice redness in the treated areas for an hour or two post-procedure and the injected areas may feel hot for about an hour. Bruising can occur, most commonly below the eyes as the skin in this area is very fragile. Every effort is made to reduce any bruising but it can occur.
PRP patients are not required to take time off following treatment and can return to work as soon as the redness has improved, usually one to two hours later.
At Evolve Dentistry, we recommend that you abstain from the use of alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment appointment, as it can increase the risk of bruising. It is also best to avoid consuming aspirin, vitamins C and E, and fish oil supplements for 48 hours pre-treatment.
At Evolve Dentistry, we request that you come to a review 4 weeks after your treatment to check the treated area and initiate the second treatment phase. If PRP is going to be carried out a second time, it will be done at that review appointment.
PRP treatments are an excellent solution for those looking to revitalise and rejuvenate tired or aged skin naturally. It is an excellent treatment for dark circles under the eyes, hyper-pigmentation from sun damage and acne scarring.
Because the treatment consists of the individual’s platelets, it is impossible to over-treat with PRP treatments, and there is minimal risk of adverse reaction. Continuous treatment will further encourage and activate the production of more collagen within the skin, allowing for continual improvement in its appearance, feel, and texture.
Furthermore, PRP treatments offer rejuvenation benefits at any layer of the face, including the fat tissues, dermis, and even within the bone.
