Thread Lifting at Evolve Dentistry, Portishead

How does a V Soft Lift thread lifting treatment work?

V Soft Lifts are a minimally-invasive treatment that involves thin, biodegradable threads that lift sagging or loose skin and improve the skin’s overall elasticity. Thread lifting threads consist of a monofilament polydioxanone (PDO), which is a biocompatible suture material that lifts the treated tissue while stimulating the production of collagen in the skin for a continually regenerative effect.

During a V Soft Lift treatment, many thin threads are inserted under the skin using a cannula in a specific pattern.

Outside of possible swelling, the side-effects associated with V Soft Lifts are minimal when compared to those associated with the traditional face lift. V Soft Lift patients can return to their normal daily routine and activities following treatment.

What areas do thread lifts treat?

Thread lifting can be used to treat various specific problem areas of the face and neck, including the:

  • Cheeks
  • Jowls
  • Mouth corners
  • Jawline
  • Eyebrows
  • Frown lines
  • Area below the chin
  • Forehead

Thread lifts can also be utilised on the whole face for a general lift when the only other option is often a traditional invasive surgery.

What are the threads made of?

V Soft Lift patented thread lift technology utilises small, thin threads that are gradually absorbed into the skin tissue over time. The threads consist of a polydioxanone monofilament material that is biocompatible, breaking down over time and stimulating collagen production,

How many thread lifting treatments will I need?

Typically, the best results can be achieved through two separate treatments that are carried out approximately one month apart.

For forehead lift, we recommend patients undergo muscle relaxant treatment one month before their V Soft Lift, as well as regularly throughout the period of time that the thread lift is effective, around 12 months.

When combined with dermal filler treatments, thread lifts should be administered first, as the fillers may no longer be necessary post thread lift, and injecting threads through filler material can result in an infection if the biofilm is disturbed.

How long does treatment last?

Thread lift appointments typically last 60 minutes for a full face treatment and 30 minutes for a forehead lift.

For all thread lifts, two treatment sessions are necessary, typically taking place four weeks apart.

How long does a consultation last?

All thread lift patients are requested to attend a 20-minute consultation prior to treatment to allow for a comprehensive treatment plan to be established that best suits their desired results.

What does the treatment involve?

A thread lift consists of the insertion of barbed or monofilament threads into the dermis of the skin to provide lift and rejuvenation as well as skin texture improvement.

Does thread lifting treatment hurt?

At Evolve Dentistry we want all our patients to be as comfortable as possible at all times. In order to reduce pain and discomfort, one of the team will administer a numbing cream 30 – 40 minutes prior to the procedure and Carol will also inject local anaesthetic.  In addition, the treated area will typically feel somewhat tight for around 2 weeks post-procedure.

How long until results can be seen?

Following the procedure, you will immediately notice a substantial difference in the lift and tightness of the skin. Rejuvenation results, however, do not appear until the threads begin to absorb into the skin, typically around 4 weeks post-procedure.

How long will thread lifting treatment results last?

After a patient received their first 2 thread lift treatments – spaced at a 4-week interval – the results of the procedure can last between 12 and 18 months.

Are there any side effects associated with thread lift treatment?

As the PDO threads consist of a biocompatible material, allergic and adverse reactions to thread lift treatments are rare.

Despite this, there are side-effects associated with the treatment, including bruising and swelling in the treated area. In addition, you may experience a feeling of tightness in the skin for up to two weeks post-procedure, and the insertion sites may appear red or blotchy in the 2 – 3 hours following your appointment.

Following thread lifting,  patients may notice some dimpling of the skin in the treated area as well, but this will usually disappear within 2 – 3 weeks.

On very rare occasions, patients can experience a tingling or numbness that continues even after the numbing cream has worn off. Again, this issue typically resolves itself within 2 – 3 weeks of treatment.

Is there any downtime associated with thread lift treatment?

While, depending on the extent of the procedure, we may advise that you take the remainder of the day off, this is not always required, and you may return to work immediately if you wish.

What pre-op advice is recommended?

Prior to a thread lift treatment patients are advised to abstain from consuming alcohol for 24 hours prior to their appointment, as doing so decreases the risk of developing unwanted side effects like bruising. Patients should also refrain from taking aspirin, vitamins C and E, and fish oils for 48 hours before treatment as consumption of these will also increase bruising.

What post-op advice is recommended?

  • Do not lie down for 2 – 3 hours post-procedure.
  • Refrain from applying makeup and moisturiser to the treated area for the remainder of the day.
  • Abstain from alcohol and exercise for a minimum of 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Avoid making extreme facial expressions.
  • Try to sleep solely on the back to avoid irritating the treated area at night.
  • To decrease swelling, apply Arnica gel and ice to the treated areas.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, and facials for 2 weeks post-treatment.
  • Do not allow direct sunlight to hit the treated area and apply sunscreen regularly once the tenderness subsides and injection sites have healed.

Do I need a routine thread lifting review?

In addition to a second treatment appointment, we request that you attend a routine review 2 weeks after your final treatment. This typically only last 20 minutes.

Are there any absolute contraindications associated with thread lifting treatments?

Unfortunately, absolute contraindications do exist for thread lift treatment. These can include:

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Active skin infections, such as cold sores
  • Taking Roaccutane or anticoagulants

What are the key benefits of thread lifting treatments?

Somewhere between a full facelift and dermal filler treatments, thread lift treatments are the perfect choice for individuals with more advanced skin ageing issues that cannot be solved through other non-invasive options but do not wish to undergo a more invasive full facelift.

As a continually restorative treatment, thread lifts can work to rejuvenate and noticeably lift and tighten sagging skin for results that can be more long lasting than those obtained using other non-invasive options.
