What do PRP Hair treatment treatments do?

PRP Hair rejuvenation before and afterPRP Hair treatment utilises the restorative and healing properties of you own blood platelets

A PRP hair rejuvenation treatment involves carefully withdrawing a vial of 10 ml of blood, which is then processed in a centrifuge in order to separate and extract the platelets and plasma. The concentrated straw-coloured liquid is re-injected into the scalp to stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth, increasing hair count and thickness.

How many PRP treatments will I need?

To obtain the most effective results, we recommend that you undergo 4-6 separate treatments a month apart from each other. You will notice new hair growth after the second treatment. PRP hair rejuvenation will only work if there are hair follicles to stimulate, if there has been no change after the second treatment, then further treatments are not recommended as it is unlikely that you will gain any benefit.

How long does a treatment last?

PRP hair restoration treatments typically last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the area that needs to be treated.

How long does a consultation last?

At Evolve Dentistry, we require that all patients attend a separate no-obligation consultation before their first treatment appointment. This will allow Carol to discuss the treatment with you. The appointment usually lasts for approximately 20 minutes.

What does the treatment involve?

At your PRP hair restoration treatment appointment, a small amount of blood will be withdrawn from the arm, typically no more than 10 ml. This vial is then placed in the centrifuge to separate the platelets from the red blood cells.

After the plasma has been isolated, it is reinjected into the scalp at the follicular level using multiple tiny needles.

Does PRP treatment hurt?

PRP treatment involves mild discomfort during the procedure, but this typically reduces very quickly.

Will the dentist use numbing cream?

No – In the scalp, this has not been found to be helpful.

How long until results can be seen from treatment?

Typically, results will be visible around 4 weeks post-procedure.

How long will treatment results last?

After 4-6 initial treatments carried out a month apart, the results of your PRP treatment will usually last between 6 and 12 months. We recommend that patients schedule their maintenance treatment at regular interval once or twice per year.

Are there any side effects associated with PRP treatment?

As PRP treatment involves the use of naturally occurring materials, allergic or adverse reactions to the treatment are rare.

However, patients may notice redness in the treated areas for an hour or two post-procedure and the injected areas may feel hot for about an hour. Every effort is made to reduce any bruising but it can occur.

Is there any downtime associated with PRP treatment?

PRP patients are not required to take time off following treatment and can return to work as soon as the redness has improved, usually one to two hours later.

What pre-op advice is recommended?

At Evolve Dentistry, we recommend that you abstain from the use of alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment appointment, as it can increase the risk of bruising. It is also best to avoid consuming aspirin, vitamins C and E, and fish oil supplements for 48 hours pre-treatment.

What post-op advice is recommended?

  • Do not touch your scalp or administer soap, water, or cream to the treated area for at least 2 hours post-procedure.

  • Don’t wash your hair for 24 hours.

  • Refrain from engaging in exercise or high-intensity activities for 24 hours.

  • Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours.

  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, and facials for at least 2 weeks post-procedure.

  • Avoid direct sunlight.

Do I need a routine review?

At Evolve Dentistry, we request that you come to a review 4 weeks after your treatment to check the treated area and initiate the second treatment phase. If PRP is going to be carried out a second time, it will be done at that review appointment.

Are there any absolute contraindications associated with PRP treatments?

  • Pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding

  • Active skin infections, including existing cold sores

  • Taking Roaccutane or anticoagulants.

  • Any active illness

  • Patients who have had cancer must have been cancer-free for 5 years

What are the key benefits of PRP treatments?

PRP treatments are an excellent solution for those looking to stimulate hair growth.

Because the treatment consists of the individual’s platelets, it is impossible to over-treat with PRP treatments, and there is minimal risk of adverse reaction. Continuous treatment will stimulate hair follicles further encourage and activate the production of more collagen within the skin, allowing for continual improvement in its appearance, feel, and texture.

Furthermore, PRP treatments offer rejuvenation benefits at any layer of the face, including the fat tissues, dermis, and even within the bone.
