With gel you apply at home initially overnight for 3-4 nights and then for just one hour a day, professional tooth whitening is the safe and effective way to remove stains and discolouration, lightening your teeth to a fresher, brighter appearance.

Tooth whitening should always be carried out on prescription of a dentist only. Anyone else offering tooth whitening could be doing so illegally.
Home Whitening is carried out by you at home, over a 2-week period, using gel in the bespoke home trays that we make for you. We will explain how to use your trays and gel.
All whitening systems need long term maintenance to keep your teeth white. This is done using your home trays and gel every 3-4 months for a few nights at a time. The number of times that you need to top-up is dependent on lifestyle such as the amount of tea or coffee that you drink, smoking or drinking red wine.
Only natural tooth material will whiten so fillings, dentures, crowns and bridges do not change colour. If you are considering any new crowns, veneers or bridges we recommend you whiten your teeth first. 98% of people will have whiter teeth at the end of treatment.
You must be over the age of 18 to have your teeth professionally whitened. We do not recommend that pregnant or breastfeeding women have tooth whitening. You must be dentally fit to have tooth whitening so if we identify any active tooth decay, we will not carry out tooth whitening until it has been treated.
Yes, we are happy to carry out your treatment and you would continue to see your own dentist for all your routine treatment.

Yes, when carried out by a qualified dental professional, teeth whitening is completely safe. In the UK, only registered dentists or hygienists working under a dentist’s prescription are legally allowed to provide this treatment, ensuring high standards and safe results.
Results typically last between 6 months and 2 years, depending on your oral hygiene and lifestyle choices. Avoiding staining foods and drinks like coffee, red wine, and tobacco will help maintain your whiter smile for longer.
Prices in the Portishead area usually range from £250 to £500, depending on the type of whitening (in-practice vs. take-home kits) and the dental practice. Many practices offer payment plans or special packages—it’s worth checking locally.
Not everyone is suitable for whitening. It’s not recommended for children under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those with certain dental conditions like gum disease or untreated cavities. A consultation with a dentist is essential to determine suitability.
No, whitening treatments only work on natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers, and fillings will remain the same colour, which is why dentists often advise whitening your teeth before restorative work for best aesthetic results.
Professional whitening, prescribed by a dentist, uses higher-strength whitening agents and custom trays for safer, more effective results. Over-the-counter options are weaker and can be unpredictable or even harmful if used incorrectly.
Most people experience little to no discomfort. However, some may notice temporary tooth sensitivity or mild gum irritation, which usually resolves within a few days. Your dentist can adjust the treatment if needed.
It varies depending on the method. In-practice treatments can take around 1–2 hours, while at-home whitening typically takes 10–14 days with daily applications.
While most patients see noticeable improvement, results can vary depending on your natural tooth shade and the cause of discolouration. Your dentist will provide realistic expectations during your consultation.
Several reputable dental practices in Portishead offer professional whitening services. It’s best to choose a GDC-registered practice with a good local reputation.
