The traditional way of straightening teeth was done with stainless steel brackets. This is a highly cost-effective way to achieve a new smile.

Whilst the stainless steel brackets can be seen, it is possible to customise them at each appointment by having the “O” rings changed to a different colour each time. “O” rings are the tiny elastics that keep the wire onto the brackets. This is a popular option with teenagers.

Children

If we spot a potential problem, you don’t need to wait until all your child’s teeth have appeared. Children can have treatment at any time after the age of 7. In some cases, the earlier potential problems are addressed the better.

Adolescents

Because all permanent teeth have come through by this stage, orthodontic treatment is the most effective in teenage years. We help teenagers embrace their treatment and choose a brace they’ll be comfortable with in front of their friends.

We have a variety of Orthodontic options at our dental practice in Portishead. We are a 20-minute drive from the centre of Bristol and welcome orthodontic patients from around the Portishead area. Many adolescents who are having orthodontic treatment at our practice find that it is convenient for them and their families as it is a walk away from their local schools. Although many adolescents are happy to wear metal braces, with a choice of coloured rings, some prefer a more discreet cosmetic option, which is readily available and can be fitted by our orthodontic specialist.

Payment is due in full prior to the brace being fitted.

• Jaw pain or soreness
• Frequent headaches
• Worn or flattened teeth

She also explains how your dentist can check for signs of grinding and, if needed, provide a mouthguard to help protect your teeth.
