FAQs – Veneers

  1. What are veneers made from?

Premium porcelain designed to mimic natural tooth translucency.

  1. How long does the treatment take?

Typically four visits over 4–6 weeks: one for smile analysis, one for preparation and fitting of your temporary veneers, one to review your new smile and when you are completely happy, one for fitting. This is probably more than most practices but at Evolve Dentistry, we want to make sure that you are completely satisfied with your new smile. The time we take to get is right, means that we have a lot of happy patients.

  1. Are they painful?

Preparation is usually pain-free with local anaesthetic. No discomfort once placed.

  1. How long do veneers last?

With good hygiene and routine reviews, 10–15 years or longer.

  1. Can they stain?

Porcelain resists stains well, but we still recommend avoiding strong staining foods/drinks, as well as biting your nails, opening bags with your teeth or opening bottles with your teeth.

  1. Do they damage my natural teeth?

It is possible to place veneers with no tooth preparation but sometimes it is necessary to remove a small amount of tooth material. Often, having braces prior to veneers will place the teeth in the optimal position, meaning very little tooth material, if any needs to be carried out.

  1. What if a veneer chips?

Small chips can often be repaired; otherwise, the veneer is replaced.

  1. Can everyone have veneers?

We assess your gum and tooth health first, including your bite and wear pattern to ensure suitability.

  1. Do my teeth look fake?

No – we carefully customise colour, shape, and translucency for a natural appearance.

  1. How much do veneers cost?

Costs vary depending on the number needed and complexity; we’ll provide a detailed quote at consultation.

Why do people grind their teeth?

In this video, Maggie explains some of the most common reasons people grind their teeth, particularly during sleep.

Grinding can be linked to things like stress, the alignment of your teeth or certain sleep issues. Over time it can lead to problems such as worn enamel, jaw pain and headaches.

If tooth grinding is causing problems, a custom dental guard may sometimes be recommended to help protect your teeth while you sleep.

Watch Maggie explain what to look out for and when it may be worth getting things checked.

Clenching, headaches, pain when chewing… these can all be signs of TMJ problems.

In this video, Yasmin explains some of the common symptoms people experience and how treatments using neurotoxins can help relax the muscles around the jaw.

For some patients, this can reduce tension, relieve discomfort and improve day-to-day symptoms.

If you’ve been experiencing jaw pain or tension, it may be worth having a conversation about your options.
