Keeping Your Mouth Healthy

Here at Evolve Dentistry in Portishead, Bristol, our philosophy is all about preventative dentistry; it underpins everything we do. But what does this actually mean? In a nutshell, we work with you to take the necessary steps to help prevent dental problems in the future. Essentially, if your mouth is in a healthy state, it has less disease.

So, how do we do this? The first thing we do with all patients is to get their whole mouth in a healthy position. We then help them to keep things this way, which leads to the necessity of less dental intervention.

We advocate a healthy mouth review twice a year to identify any problems early on to give advice and stop them from developing further. Our hygienists work in collaboration with our dentists to treat gum disease. We strongly recommend hygiene appointments every six months, with a focus on prevention in order to keep gums healthy and disease free.

Oral health for overall health

Did you know that your oral health impacts on your overall health? This is because the bacteria in the mouth that causes infection and inflammation have been shown to have further reaching effects than just the teeth and gums. In fact, disease and decay in the mouth have been systemically linked to other conditions like heart disease and strokes. This is why the two biggest issues for us are dental decay and gum disease; they also happen to be the main reasons why people lose their teeth. We advocate a good diet with low a sugar intake, and provide advice on how to brush and floss effectively every day.

Protecting your pocket

A healthy mouth is the foundation for cosmetic dental work, because it helps to ensure the stability of the work going forward. This is not just beneficial to the look of your smile for years to come, it also ensures that your investment in cosmetic work is protected, too.

We are proud to put prevention first, so if you would like to learn how to keep your mouth healthy call our reception team on 01275 842 550 to book an appointment.
