What is an orthodontist?

What is an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a specialist who has carried out additional training after qualifying as a general dentist. They specialise in moving teeth, both for cosmetic and functional reasons.

What’s the difference between an orthodontist and a general dentist?

General dentists help patients improve and maintain their oral health, dealing with teeth, gum, nerves and jaw. While orthodontists specialise in the movement and aligning teeth only.

Can orthodontists clean teeth?

A hygienist is the best clinician to carry out this type of treatment. Here at Evolve we have 2 hygienists that you can book appointments with.

Do you still need to see your dentist during teeth straightening treatment?

Your orthodontist will not be carrying out healthy mouth reviews (check ups) during your orthodontic reviews, they will be checking the progress of the movement of your teeth. It’s more important than ever to see your general dentist for check ups to ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy.
