Veneers – your local dental practice in Portishead

What are instant veneers?

Over the past few years there have been major improvements and advancements in veneers. This has included the development of highly durable and aesthetic composite materials. These materials are easily worked by your dentist and are similar inconsistency to putty. Once the dentist has shaped this composite material to the correct shape it is then cured with a high-powered light.

Generally speaking instant veneers are used to correct the following problems:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Broken down teeth
  • Pits in teeth
  • Cracks in teeth
  • Mildly rotated teeth
  • Dark areas on teeth

This makes them a highly versatile treatment in the hands of a skilled Bristol dentist.

How are instant veneers stuck to the tooth?

When you ask your dentist to correct a cosmetic problem of your tooth, your dentist will make an assessment as to whether bonding or instant veneers are the right option for you. If it is  decided that they are, then this is the procedure that is usually followed.

  • Step one. Any decayed areas will be gently removed
  • Step two. The tooth surface will be cleaned
  • Step three. The outer surface of the tooth will be roughened or etched
  • Step four. A thin liquid will then be applied to the tooth to ensure there is no post treatment sensitivity
  • Step five. The tooth coloured composite material is then bonded to the outer surface of the tooth to the new shape. This is then cured with a high-powered light
  • Step six. The finished restoration, too, is then polished to a high shine

When this treatment is finished you will not see any difference between your natural to and your new instant veneer.

How long does the treatment take?

Typically 1 would take around 30 min to treat in this manner, although more teeth take proportionately less time to treat. So we may be able to do 6 teeth in around 2 to 3 hours – although this totally depends on your exact situation.

How long do they last?

They have a tendency to not be quite as durable as regular ceramic veneers or dental crowns. However, in the event that they chip slightly repairing them is simple and easy and can be undertaken in one appointment. If you have instant veneers (or bonding) we suggest you continue to visit the dentist regularly to ensure they remain highly polished, if they keep their high shine then they have less of a tendency to collect stains such as tea, coffee or red wine.
