Thinking about straightening your teeth?

You’re probably not looking for someone to sell you braces.

You’re looking for honest answers.

You may be wondering whether you’re too old, whether treatment will hurt, how long it takes or which type of braces would suit you best.

If that’s where you are, you’re in the right place.

This page has been designed to answer the biggest questions adults ask before starting orthodontic treatment. Whether you’re simply curious or almost ready to book a consultation, our aim is to help you make an informed decision – not a rushed one.

Not sure where to start?

Choose the question that sounds most like you.

Each of these questions has its own in-depth guide, written to help you understand your options with confidence.

Could adult braces be right for you?

Orthodontic treatment isn’t just about creating a straighter smile.

For many adults, it’s about feeling more confident, making teeth easier to clean or improving the way their teeth bite together.

People choose braces for lots of different reasons.

You might have:

  • Teeth that have gradually moved over time.
  • Crowded teeth that are difficult to clean.
  • Gaps you’d like to close.
  • A bite that doesn’t feel quite right.
  • A smile you’ve never really felt confident about.

Equally, braces aren’t always the answer.

Sometimes another treatment, such as whitening, composite bonding or restorative dentistry, may better achieve your goals.

That’s why every orthodontic journey should begin with understanding you—not choosing a type of brace.

Understanding your treatment options

There isn’t one “best” type of brace.

The right choice depends on your smile, your lifestyle and your goals.

We’ll help you understand the advantages and limitations of every suitable option before making a recommendation.

What happens if I decide to go ahead?

Living with braces

One of the biggest surprises for many adults is how quickly braces become part of everyday life.

You’ll still go to work.

Go on holiday.

Meet friends.

Enjoy meals out.

There are a few adjustments, but most patients tell us they spent far longer worrying about braces than actually wearing them.

Life after braces

The day your braces come off is exciting.

But it’s not quite the end of the journey.

Retainers play an important role in helping protect the smile you’ve worked so hard to achieve.

Understanding the investment

It’s natural to want to know how much braces cost.

But the better question is:

“What’s included?”

Orthodontic treatment is more than the appliance itself.

You’re investing in:

  • Personalised treatment planning.
  • Digital technology.
  • Regular review appointments.
  • Clinical expertise.
  • Long-term support.
  • Retainers and aftercare.

🦷 Did you know left-handed people often brush their teeth differently?

It might sound surprising, but research suggests that your dominant hand can influence how and where you brush.

Many people naturally spend more time cleaning the side of their mouth that’s easiest to reach, meaning some areas can be missed without even realising it.

The good news? It doesn’t matter whether you’re left or right-handed - the most important thing is having a consistent brushing routine:

🪥 Brush twice a day for two minutes.
🦷 Use a fluoride toothpaste.
✨ Don’t forget to clean every surface of every tooth.
😁 And remember, regular hygiene appointments can help remove plaque and staining from the areas we all tend to miss.

Are you left or right-handed? Let us know in the comments… and next time you brush, pay attention to which side you start on! 👇
The best part of our job?

It’s this.

That first smile when someone sees the result of their treatment.

The confidence that comes from feeling comfortable smiling in photos again.

The relief of finally being out of pain.

The moment someone realises visiting the dentist wasn’t nearly as daunting as they expected.

Behind every smile is a person, a story and a journey. Being trusted to be part of that is something we never take for granted.

Thank you to every patient who chooses Evolve Dentistry. Helping you smile with confidence really is the best part of what we do. 💙
✨ How can you keep your teeth white?

In this short video, Dr Richard Ford shares some simple ways to help keep your smile looking its best:

• Attend regular hygiene appointments to help remove surface staining.
• Brush your teeth twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste.
• Be mindful of foods and drinks that can cause staining, such as black coffee, red wine and turmeric.
• If you’d like a brighter smile, professional teeth whitening is a safe and effective option.

The reality is that teeth naturally pick up stains over time. The good news is that a few simple habits can make a real difference.

If you’re thinking about whitening your teeth, or you’re not sure which option is right for you, we’re always happy to help you understand your choices with no pressure.

Will composite bonding damage my teeth?

It’s a common concern, especially for patients who want to improve their smile while protecting their natural teeth.

The good news is that composite bonding is often one of the most conservative cosmetic dental treatments available. In many cases, little or no preparation of the tooth is required, meaning your natural tooth structure can be preserved.

Composite bonding can be used to improve the appearance of:

✔ Chipped teeth
✔ Small gaps between teeth
✔ Uneven tooth shapes
✔ Worn edges
✔ Minor imperfections

Because the treatment is minimally invasive, many patients choose composite bonding when they want to enhance their smile without significant changes to their natural teeth.

Every smile is unique, so we’ll always discuss your options and explain exactly what’s involved before any treatment begins.
